Aquaculture

VALORĒS and Homarus, Investing in Marine Sciences

Since 2003, the VALORĒS Research Institute has been working on a lobster hatchery and stocking project in conjunction with Homarus, research and development subsidiary of the Maritime Fishermen’s Union. Thus, female lobsters caught by fishermen are placed in tanks and produce thousands of larvae reared in optimal conditions up to a size allowing them to be released into the sea.

Arctic Char, the Salmonid of Tomorrow

Valorēs led a Canada-wide project on the development of aquaculture and the profitable marketing of Arctic char in Canada. This species of salmonid, present especially in the northern regions, has remarkable qualities both by its flavour and the delicacy of its flesh. Inland fish farming is an environment that suits him very well and this makes the Arctic char a perfect candidate for sustainable aquaculture.
